I started teacher teaching Mathematics to grade 7, 8 and 9 students in 2010.  When I first started, I taught the way most teachers did – following a textbook.  It was overwhelming, the amount of material that needed to be covered, the list of expectations that needed to be assessed and evaluated.  In short, I taught it the way I learned it – no questions asked.

Suddenly, about three years later, I realized that I wanted students to really understand Math – to “get it” so that they can “explain their thinking”.   No, I don’t mean “show your work”.  I mean “justify” and “verify”.  I started to look for ways to show how it all can make sense.

And this is the inspiration behind my blog.
